Life of a Cheerleader

By: Taylor Edmiston

Friday nights for cheerleaders mean you're going to have a long day. The day will start with waking up early to do your hair and makeup, putting on your uniform, and heading to school. Once at school, you will most likely freeze because you're wearing a skirt and the school is like an ice box. You normally don't get a ton of work done on game days because everyone is just pumped for the game that night. Depending on where the game that night is at, you might get out of school early. But if it's a home game you have enough time to either go home or to a friend's and grab something to eat. Then it's game time.

Before the game officially starts, if it's a home game, we have to get the breakaway ready and get out on the field. We stand out on the field and hold hands for the national anthem. Then the boys do their chants and run through the breakaway. That's when we get onto the sidelines and get ready for the game. Once the game starts we have to stand with our hands behind our backs and watch the game unless we're doing a cheer. If the game is a close game everyone, including people not in the student section, are pumped up and the cheerleaders are yelling even louder than we think possible. And when we win the game, we all line up and sing "Our Guys" while doing a kickline. That's probably my favorite part of winning a game.

After the game is over, almost everyone heads to Butler to go to Taco Bell and get some grub. We all just chat and hang out until T-Bell closes and then we either head home or stay the night at someones house.
