After falling short of the win last Friday, the hopeful Blackhawks took the field against The Rich Hill Tigers. Due to an incoming storm, the game began a few hours early. It all felt a little weird. The stands seemed bare at first and the booster club was unable to tailgate. It did not seem like the normal Adrian “Friday Night Lights.” The Blackhawks didn’t let that stop them, though. With a little over a minute left in the first quarter, senior, Zachary Shannon, ran a 23 yard touchdown and senior, Dylan Novovesky’s extra point kick was good. Unfortunately, Rich Hill answered with a kickoff return for a touchdown to put them on the board. The Blackhawks go into the 2nd quarter with a 7-6 lead over The Tigers. Mid-way through the second quarter, senior, Jacob Weeks got an interception. When asked about it, Jacob jokingly said “I knew Tanner was coming behind me, but I wanted to steal that interception from him.” Soon after that, senior, Zachary Shannon gets the ball again and scores a 34 yard touchdown. The extra point was no good and The Blackhawks have a 13-6 lead. With 1 minute and 29 seconds left to go in the first half, rich hill scores, climbing the board to tie the game. The Blackhawks come back. With 6.4 seconds, sophomore, Hunter Steen, makes a 2 yard touchdown run and with the extra point good by senior, Novovesky, Adrian takes the lead at halftime, 20-13. No one scored in the third and The Blackhawks went into the fourth with the same 20-13 lead. Then, with 6:27 left in the fourth, Rich Hill makes a touchdown pass and their kick was no good. Rich Hill bites at our heels, trailing by one. With a few late interceptions by seniors, Tanner Pitts and Peyton Reynolds, The Blackhawks managed to hold on to their lead and go on to win the game 20-19. Peyton said “The crowd was really into it. It was pushing myself and the team to do better. I’m really glad we have such a great set of supportive fans and cheerleaders who love their Blackhawks.”
Our dear ol’ Blackhawks will take the field away this Friday versus The Whirlwinds at 7:00.
