Recently the Adrian Elementary School was named one of the best schools in the nation by the U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King, Jr. This is a very high achievement, being that only 278 other public schools, as well as 50 private schools throughout the whole nation received this honor of the 2016 National Blue Ribbon School . Among these schools receiving the honor only 6 received it in the state of Missouri. This goes to show how dedicated and determined the Adrian elementary teachers are. They are also very fortunate to have a wonderful Principal, Mrs. Connie Reynolds, who encourages them to be even better.
Bailey McMillan, Ally Jennings, and Jaylee Welcher interviewed long-time teachers, Mitchell McNeal and Amy Shipley. Both have been great assets to Adrian Elementary for 10 years now. When asked how they felt about the prestigious ranking of the elementary, Shipley stated, “I think it is a testament of hard work to the students and teachers. It is a huge deal, only six schools in Missouri get this honor.” The girls then asked why they believed they were ranked this way. McNeal replied, “It all goes back to the hard work and commitment of the teachers and students and the gracious support from the parents.” When asked how they insure their student’s learning, Mrs. Shipley said, “We track progress very well. They have to take tests and master then twice with an 80% or above. If they do not pass, we reteach until they meet that goal.” Teachers like Mitchell McNeal and Amy Shipley are the reason that The Adrian Elementary School has achieved such an honorable title.
